The Used Where function in Highstage enables you to get a list of all items (e.g. documents, products or components) that contains (references) a specific item. In other words, you can take advantage of Used Where to easily identify any reference structure or Bill of Materials (BOM) that includes or contains a particular component.
In this manner, you can have absolute confidence regarding which structures and BOMs that includes a specific item regardless of how many levels down in the structure that the item is listed. If an item is referenced and used anywhere, you will know about it.
The following capabilities are supported by the Used Where feature:
To make use of Used Where features and see a list of all items that contains (directly and indirectly through many levels of references) a specific item:
You will be redirected to a dedicated page that displays the listings of all items of the same type (e.g. Documents, Parts, Actions, Devices) that contains the specific item as a reference somewhere in its reference structure:
Note: To view items of other types that references the specific item, you must specify the type directly in the basetype field.
Tip: The Used Where results page takes full advantage of our search capabilities in Highstage. This enables you to search within the list and/or make modifications by updating the search design options. Click here to learn more about searching in Highstage.
The Item input field contains the unique ID of the item for which we are investigating whether it is included as a reference:
The Item input field will automatically be filled with the item ID from the associated item that Used Where was accessed from. To change the Item manually and see results for another item (e.g. Document, Part, Action, Device) you need to:
The results will now be updated to show items that contains references, somewhere in the structure, to the specified item.
Note: The page will be empty if there are no available results or if the specified item does not exist.
The Basetype input field contains the basetype property for that specific item (e.g. Document, Part, Action, Device).
The Basetype input field will automatically be filled with the basetype property from the associated item that Used Where was accessed from.
To change the Basetype manually and see results for another basetype (e.g. Document, part, Action, Device) you need to:
The results will now be updated to show items that contains references, somewhere in the structure, to the specified item - but will only be listed if they are within the scope of the defined 'basetype'.
Note: The page will be empty if there are no available results or if the specified item does not exist.
The Levels input field allows for you to refine the results by only showing results up to a particular 'level' of the reference structures containing the specified item:
In other words, you can 'cut' off results that exists 'further away' in the reference structure to limit the results for larger reference structures.
For instance, defining 1
as the specified level will only display results of items that has a direct reference to the specified item, whereas 3
will yield results for the items' parents, parents, parent reference (should they exist).
To apply a Level filter:
The results will now be updated to show items that contains references, somewhere in the structure, to the specified item - but will only be listed if they are within the scope of the defined 'level'.
Note: The page will be empty if there are no available results or if the specified item does not exist.
